Step 13

Communications

Professional communication is an important part of private school admissions because it helps schools know you as a person, not only as an application. Thoughtful emails to admissions officers, coaches, teachers, or arts faculty can show genuine interest and help you learn about specific programs. Write clearly, personalize each message, share meaningful updates when appropriate, and follow up respectfully rather than sending frequent reminders.

Emails

  • Go on the school website and find the faculty directory to get the emails of whoever you want to contact.
  • Then, make a format for a starting email to anyone from the music department, athletics, or math. This will make each email easy and efficient.
  • Establish a connection with them and get to know them.
  • Update them on things like recent games or performances.
  • Also, remember to wish them on holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas).

What if they don't get back to me?

  • The strategy for no reply is always to keep on sending, but not too frequently.
  • Once they respond, ensure a timely follow-up, and don't miss the opportunity!
