Step 04
How Many Schools
Deciding how many schools to include in your private school admissions plan requires balancing opportunity with workload. There is no perfect number, but four or five carefully chosen schools—and at most six—can leave enough time for thoughtful essays, visits, and interviews. A longer list creates more deadlines and can reduce the attention given to each application, so prioritize genuine fit and strong work over quantity.
The Number
There is not a golden number, but around 4-5, or at the most 6, is suitable. Here's why.
Effects
- With more schools to worry about comes less amount of attention on each.
- To ensure good contribution to each, I would pick around 4-5 schools.
- Also the workload increases with more schools, especially if you are using Gateway.
- Decide if you really have time to balance extracurriculars, school, and your application.
- Attendance might be a problem as well: the amount of interviews and visits to many different locations might lose you some school time, which might lead to less contribution and overall outcome in class.
