Step 07
Candidate Profile
The candidate profile may look like a small part of private school admissions, but it gives schools an organized view of who you are. Use it to present academic, athletic, and personal achievements alongside your interests and background. The additional-information area can also hold meaningful videos, certificates, or other work. Thoughtful details help admissions teams understand what you could contribute to their community.
First, what does it consist of?
- Biographical Information: name, address, date and place of birth, gender, and preferred contact details.
- Current Standing: current grade, the grade applying for, proposed entrance year, and residential status (day student or boarding student).
- Academic, Athletic, and Personal Achievements: a text box where the candidate lists or describes achievements, honors, and extracurriculars (often with character limits).
Achievements
- The achievements part is a great place to show who you are through what you've done.
- Keep in mind that many things are achievements, even if not awards.
- For example, if you speak a language at home and you are proficient, you can include that! Or a goal that you set and achieved, like reading 100 books.
Additional Information
I know it might seem unnecessary, but sending this kind of material really does set you apart from others.
- I believe this is the most overlooked part of the Candidate Profile. It provides space for two links of multimedia (videos) and a file space for whatever you want, with a 2000 character description!
- When I saw this, I uploaded my YouTube channel for music. I also sent a video of a speech I gave!
- There is also space for online certificates, which I uploaded some from as far as 6th grade (it does say from two years onwards for achievements as well).
